Timber
Bamboo
Here are the giants ranging from 40 to 100 feet at maturity with culm diameters
of 3 to 7 inches. The clumping timber bamboos can be grown in a relatively
small space, but give the running bamboos ample room. As they become established,
they all increase in size very rapidly. These all do best in full sun. They
grow to the mature sizes shown only in the warmer zones.

Phyllostachys
nigra ‘Henon’.
A vigorous green, not black in spite of the name, bamboo. As the grove
matures the culms assume a gray-blue cast giving the grove an attractive
ghostly appearance. If I could grow but one bamboo this would be it
– but I’m in Zone 5. Too cold. This photo was taken near Savannah, Georgia.
